Slow to moderate.
Slow growing in the earlier years. Dense and upright, this shrub has a broad spread. Left unclipped it has a rounded canopy.
Evergreen. Gloss green, lance shaped with a slightly wavy edge. New growth is reddish on red stalks.
Spiked clusters of small perfumed white flowers appear in Summer.
Preferred growing conditions:
Prefers full sun to partial shade.
Thrives in moist, well drained soil conditions.
Will tolerate periods of dryness.
Frost hardy once established.
Portugal laurel can be used very effectively for screening and hedging or left as a dense, rounded showy shrub. Evergreen glossy green leaves together with small white fragrant flowers in summer add to year round interest.
