Slow growing in the earlier years, this tree has a broad spread with a rounded crown.
Foliage:
Deciduous. Coarse and jagged green leaves with colours varying from vivid orange to dark red in autumn.
Floral:
Bunches of mildly perfumed, double flowers in late spring. Buds are gentle pink in colour which flourish into large, rose-like flowers with yellow stamens. In full bloom, the tree is a floral mass.
Preferred growing conditions:
Prefers full sun to partial shade
Well drained, slightly acidic soil.
Unsuitable for high pH soils.

Malus ionensis Plena is a good choice of tree where space is limited – particularly in small to medium sized landscapes. This popular species of the Crab Apple is especially favoured for its fragrant and abundant floral display in the spring. This tree also features excellent autumnal colour.
