Cornus controversa
Description: A striking deciduous tree with tiered, horizontal branching and abundant late spring to early summer clusters of white bracted flowers that create a layered “wedding cake” effect. The attractive foliage turns bronzy in autumn and provides an architectural form suited to large gardens and specimen planting. The wide, spreading habit makes it an excellent focal tree beneath larger canopies.

Mature height 2–6 m; spread 2–5 m; evergreen; moderate growth; prolific flowering.
Full sun to part shade; excellent for coastal sites, screens, native gardens and wildlife plantings.
Prefers well-drained soils; tolerates a range from sandy to loamy; drought-tolerant once established but appreciates moisture in dry spells.
Prune lightly after flowering to shape and encourage new growth; avoid heavy removal of older wood which may not reshoot readily.
