Cornus controversa
Description: A striking deciduous tree with tiered, horizontal branching and abundant late spring to early summer clusters of white bracted flowers that create a layered “wedding cake” effect. The attractive foliage turns bronzy in autumn and provides an architectural form suited to large gardens and specimen planting. The wide, spreading habit makes it an excellent focal tree beneath larger canopies.

Mature height 4–7 m (varies by form); spread 3–6 m; deciduous; moderate growth; summer flowering.
Full sun required for best flowering; sheltered from late frost advisable.
Prefers well-drained, fertile soils; tolerates a range of pH levels and urban conditions.
Prune in late winter to remove suckers and shape; light deadheading after flowering encourages tidiness; avoid “topping”—use selective thinning instead.
