Prunus cerasifera Nigra fastigiata
Description: A striking columnar ornamental plum with deep purple foliage year-round and masses of pale to mid-pink blossoms in early spring. Its narrow, upright form makes a dramatic vertical accent in small gardens, courtyards or as a specimen in tight streetscapes; produces small edible plums that are mostly ornamental.

Mature height 3–6 m (pruneable); spread 2–5 m; evergreen; slow to moderate growth; self-fertile but yields improve with cross-pollination; high oil quality for its size.
Full sun; warm, sheltered sites preferred; works well as a specimen, in rows, or in large containers on patios.
Prefers well-drained, neutral to alkaline soils; tolerates poor, rocky soils and coastal exposure once established; avoid waterlogged conditions.
Annual light pruning to maintain shape, open the canopy for light penetration and facilitate harvest; remove crossing branches and vigorous suckers; avoid heavy heading cuts.
