Growth Habit:
Medium to large size tree, deciduous and robust in habit, forming a conical shape.
Foliage:
Deep, glossy green ‘maple shaped’ leaves with a paler underside. Sheds leaves prior to flowering. Leaves recur after flowering.
Floral:
From spring to early summer, abundant bright red to deep crimson bell-shaped flowers appear on leafless branches.
Preferred growing conditions:
Copes well in a large range of growing conditions but proliferates best in well-drained soil with a mildly acidic pH level and a full sun aspect. Drought tolerant.
Landscape Use:
Highly prized for its striking red floral display which blooms from late spring to early summer. Suitable in larger gardens as a feature and/or shade tree.
